Vânia Costa Ramos

Vânia Costa Ramos is a managing partner at Carlos Pinto de Abreu e Associados – a medium-sized law office based in Lisbon, but acting all over Portugal, which was founded by Carlos Pinto de Abreu. This office offers its clients a specialised, dedicated and personalised team service, always supervised by a senior lawyer. The team has expertise in all Criminal Law areas, ranging from classical Criminal Law to White Collar Crime and extends to Regulatory punitive proceedings and to Disciplinary Proceedings. Vânia specializes in International and European and Economic Criminal Law and is responsible for the mutual cooperation cases. In 2008 she started to lecture at the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon, where she has been admitted as PhD student with the Thesis “evidence exchange in the European Union – an European theory on exclusion of evidence in criminal procedure”.

Vânia Costa Ramos has been awarded Scholarships to undertake work as guest-researcher at the Institute for Criminology and Economic Criminal Law and at the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg, Germany; and is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Criminal Bar Association, as well as a Member of Fair Trials International Legal Experts Advisory Panel.

 

Rui Pinto Duarte

Born in 1955.

Holds a basic degree (“licenciatura”) in Law , a master in Law and a Ph. D. in Law.
Attorney-at-law admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association.

Has lectured and lectures in different Universities, having inter alia been full professor of the Law School of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Has published books and articles about different legal areas, especially Contract Law, Company Law, Banking Law and Property Law.

Has collaborated in the orientation of several law journals.

Has intervened in around 100 arbitration cases, mainly as arbitrator (more than 30 as chairman and 3 as sole arbitrator); some of such cases were under the aegis of International Chamber of Commerce.

Is a founding member of the Associação Portuguesa de Arbitragem (Portuguese Arbitration Society). Was chairman of its Council for Commercial Arbitration Practice.

Has as working languages Portuguese and English.

Patrícia Matos

Patrícia Matos is a Transfer Pricing Partner in Deloitte’s Portugal and Angola offices and has more than 18 years of experience as a tax/transfer pricing specialist in global/international projects, including the coordination of tax/transfer pricing planning, due diligence, and tax/transfer pricing compliance for Portuguese and Angolan-based multinational companies.

In 2002, following the introduction of the Portuguese transfer pricing regime, she began working exclusively in transfer pricing and led the launching of Deloitte’s transfer pricing practice in Portugal and, since October 2013, in Angola.

Regular and comprehensive cooperation between Deloitte’s Portuguese, European, and American practices ensures that Patrícia is familiar with international state-of-the-art transfer pricing techniques and trends.

Patrícia has worked closely with the Portuguese tax authorities’ transfer pricing team on several technical issues, and has been involved in the critical analysis of recent updates to the Portuguese transfer pricing legislation. Patrícia has also been involved in several advance pricing agreements (APA) negotiations in Portugal, and was the partner responsible for supporting the first APA between the tax authorities and a taxpayer in Portugal. In addition, Patrícia was responsible for the technical training of the tax authorities’ transfer pricing team in Angola.

Patrícia has broad experience advising clients in several aspects of transfer pricing, ranging from tax audits to comprehensive transfer pricing planning, structuring of intercompany transactions, international business restructurings, defensive documentation, tax litigation, and mutual agreements procedures.

Patrícia has experience across a wide range of industries, including energy, communications, technology, media, financial services, automotive, consumer goods, tourism, and pharmaceuticals.

Her contributions to the transfer pricing field have been acknowledged in the 2013 edition of World Tax, which recognized her as a leading transfer pricing specialist in Portugal.

Patrícia is certified public account in Portugal.

Rui Pena

Rui Pena works in administrative law, focusing on public procurement, energy and environment.

Rui was the founding partner of CMS Rui Pena & Arnaut, and is now the current Senior Partner. He founded his first law firm in 1987.

Rui Pena studied law at Universidade de Lisboa and he has been a member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 1964.

Rui was Minister of National Defence from 2001 to 2002 and Minister of Administrative Reform in 1978. In 1986, he was a Member of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon.

In 1985 the Portuguese government asked him to bring together mediators and conciliators of the ICSID (International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes). Between 1976 and 1983 he was a Member of Parliament, and he was elected chairman of CDS Parliamentary Group.

Joined Vieira de Almeida & Associados in 1998. He is a partner responsible for the Intellectual Property area of practice, also working thoroughly in corporate law and corporate crime.

He has participated in important PPP projects in the areas of transportation, has been involved in several major industrial, commercial and M&A transactions and has provided regular legal support to several international industrial companies, notably research-based pharmaceutical companies, and their Portuguese Association. He has broad experience in commercial litigation and arbitration, both national and international, as well as in pharmaceutical patent litigation.

Before joining the firm he was a partner at the law firm Botelho Moniz, Magalhães Cardoso, Marques Mendes & Ruiz, Sociedade de Advogados.
