Harold Goodman

Harold I. Goodman leads the employment law practice at Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer. Best Lawyers recently recognized Mr. Goodman as Philadelphia’s Employment Lawyer of the Year and he is renowned for his work representing victims of employment discrimination. Under his leadership, the firm has achieved precedent-setting successes on behalf of our clients in cases of wrongful discharge and discrimination because of sex, race, age, or disability status. Mr. Goodman has represented his clients four times before the United States Supreme Court and won all four times.

Mr. Goodman starts by guiding his clients through the maze of state and federal employment law that governs workers’ rights. If those rights have been violated, Mr. Goodman is ready to take their cases to court where he has earned the respect of the bench and opposing bar.

Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer has been recognized as a 2018 Best Law Firm by U.S. News and World Report and has achieved a Philadelphia Metropolitan Tier 1 Ranking in the practice area of employment law.

Harold Goodman’s very first case was to defend his client’s First Amendment rights before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. A unanimous decision in his client’s favor foreshadowed a lifetime commitment by Mr. Goodman to fight for victims of injustice. During his two decades of work with Philadelphia’s Community Legal Services, Mr. Goodman was lead trial attorney in countless landmark cases, including successful fights to preserve the due process rights of injured workers and to racially integrate labor unions and the Pennsylvania State Police. In the early 1990s, Mr. Goodman joined the team at Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer working to hold asbestos manufacturers accountable for putting asbestos into our community’s schools.

Throughout his career, Mr. Goodman has been a formidable advocate in both the trial and appellate courts. On four occasions, he has argued and won cases before the United States Supreme Court. In addition, he has argued and won more than ten cases in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and more than thirty cases in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© and has been selected to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list by his peers.

Mr. Goodman devotes his practice to representing victims of unlawful discrimination or mistreatment, including for sexual harassment, sexual abuse, sexual discrimination, race discrimination, age discrimination, disability discrimination, civil rights and constitutional law violations. He also represents whistleblowers, ERISA claimants and False Claims Act plaintiffs.

Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer:

In March 2018, Raynes McCarty proudly changed its name to Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer. We want to honor our next generation of trial attorneys who embody our values and our fifty year commitment to the highest level of representation of our clients.

Although under a new name, our personal injury firm continues to be recognized not only for securing outstanding results, but also for its commitment to each client. The firm prides itself on representing people, not “handling cases.” While the attorneys of Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer have secured billions of dollars in recoveries for our clients, we have done so while shunning headlines for the firm in order to protect the dignity and confidentiality of our clients.

Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer is proud of its commitment to public service. In addition to significant charitable contributions, the firm’s lawyers spend countless hours serving the community in Philadelphia and beyond. Whether it is advocating in Harrisburg and Washington D.C. to protect the rights of the injured and handicapped, or serving on boards of local non-profit service organizations, Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer lawyers have always been there, and will continue to be.

We believe that the manner in which we provide our services is just as important as the quality of the legal services we provide. The team at Sherr Law Group is always in tireless pursuit of our client’s interests while maintaining a professional working relationship with the teams representing our adversaries. It may not be the most instantly gratifying way of dealing with tense situations, but we know from experience that better results are attained when all parties are civil and respectful toward one another. Developing respectful relationships on both sides of the table does not mean we are any less tenacious or committed to achieving a just result for our clients–to the contrary, we care about our clients as if their cases were our own.

Firm Overview:

Pepper Hamilton LLP counsels each client as if it were our only client.

With more than 425 lawyers in 13 offices across the United States, we use the unique skills and talents of our people, the breadth of our practices, and the depth of our experience to deliver powerful solutions to clients’ legal and business issues. The firm was founded in 1890.

Start closer to the right answer.® Our firm has grown from a two-person law office formed in Philadelphia to a large, sophisticated law firm with a national and international practice. While much about Pepper is new and different from its beginnings, we retain traditional values passed down through the decades: respect for the rule of law, pride in an excellent work product and commitment to the client’s cause. Today, Pepper Hamilton is a diverse firm of men and women from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, united in these values.
