Elizabeth Fong (CIPP/A) is a Singapore lawyer and Managing Director of Equinix Law. Her work sits at the intersection of banking and finance, technology, data, regulation and corporate governance, shaped by experience both in private practice and in-house, including as General Counsel of businesses she helped build from the ground up.
A significant part of Elizabeth’s career has been spent working at the forefront of Singapore’s evolving financial services landscape. As General Counsel & Company Secretary of GXS Bank, she was part of the team that built the bank from concept through to full operations following the award of one of only two Digital Full Bank licences by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. She advised on the development and launch of new financial and technology products, helped establish the bank’s legal and governance frameworks, and supported its regional expansion, including the establishment of banking businesses across multiple jurisdictions.
Elizabeth was also General Counsel, Data Protection Officer & Company Secretary of Asia Pacific Exchange (APEX), where she helped establish Singapore’s third derivatives exchange and clearing house. Her role included securing the necessary MAS licences and supporting the exchange through to full operations.
Her experience also spans some of the wider changes taking place across technology and financial services. At JPMorgan Chase and Meta, she advised on privacy, data protection and technology regulation across Asia Pacific, including regulatory strategy and advocacy, emerging data laws, incident and data breach response, and engagement with regulators across the region. Earlier in her career, she worked with Drew & Napier LLC, JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and spent time as an investment banker with Macquarie Bank.
In private practice, Elizabeth has headed a corporate practice, advising on banking and finance, corporate transactions, AI and technology, digital assets, strategic investments, governance and cross-border transactions. These experiences have given her a practical understanding of how legal and regulatory issues intersect with the commercial realities of running a business.
