Luis Fernando is a founding partner of the firm and director of the areas of Business Criminal Law, Corporate & Business Law and Oil & Gas; He also leads the international practice in Human Rights and International Criminal Law. He has extensive, important and recognized experience and tracking record representing the interests of different national and foreign companies in the hydrocarbons, infrastructure, transportation, and the private industry.

Graduated in law school from the Universidad del Rosario, with a postgraduate in Criminal Law and Criminological Sciences of the Universidad Externado de Colombia, graduated also in Legal Structuring of Petroleum Projects from the Universidad Javeriana, and with extensive expertise in Human Rights and Corporate & Business Law.

He has been recognized as an International Legal Leader Latin America by the prestigious North American publications ”The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel” in its 2013 edition Focus Latin America. Also, recognized by the British business publication CorporateINT as Leading Expert for Litigation advice in Colombia; awarded by ACQ in the Global Awards 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 as Litigation Lawyer of the year in Colombia. Likewise, the Global Awards 2018 of M&A Today and Finance Monthly recognized him as Best Litigation Law Lawyer of the Year in Colombia; the 2018 and 2019 Law Awards of Corporate USA Today also honored him as Best Litigation Law Lawyer of the Year in Colombia; Finance Monthly in its Legal Awards 2019 awarded him with the prize as Litigation Lawyer of the Year in Colombia, among other important mentions and distinctions in recognized guides and legal directories.

He serves as a Delegate and International Observer of the International Bar Association (IBA) regarding human rights. Also, he has served as a delegate of the Spanish Association for the International Law of Human Rights (aeDIDH). He overtook an outstanding and decisive role in the judicial processes of the most relevant political prisoners in Venezuela during the last years, where the cases against the political leader Leopoldo López and the judge María Lourdes Afiuni stand out. He also acted as an adviser and consultant in relevant cases such as Casas de Bolsa and Leopoldo López Mendoza, forming and participating actively in their international defence.

Luis Fernando has excelled in the defence of recognized foreign companies and individuals in important criminal, disciplinary, prosecutorial and administrative cases that have been of great national and international relevance and impact, and are among the most renowned cases of corruption in the country and in the region.

Between 2013 and 2015, he served as legal vice president and general secretary of a Colombian hydrocarbons exploration and production company, a position from which he retired to continue his professional practice in his law firm.

He is an international lecturer and has been an adjunct professor at the Universities of Los Andes and Rosario, as well as at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Caracas – Venezuela). He practices as an adviser, consultant, and litigant in Corporate & Business Law, Oil & Gas, Business Criminal, Disciplinary, Fiscal, International Criminal, and Human Rights.
