Professional Biography

Craig Fontaine Ashton is a Northern California trial attorney and co-founder of Ashton & Price LLP, a Sacramento-based, best-practice, personal injury law firm representing seriously injured individuals throughout the local Northern California region. In addition to his litigation work, he hosts “The All Things Legal Show” and regularly provides legal commentary focused on serious injury claims, insurance disputes, and consumer legal education.

A five-time full Ironman triathlon finisher and five-time Alcatraz-to-San Francisco swimmer, Ashton also carries a notable connection to the nation’s founding. Apropos of the celebration of 250 years of the United States, he is, by biological happenstance, a direct descendant of Richard Henry Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and of John Augustine Washington, brother of George Washington—a lineage that makes George Washington his uncle several generations removed.

As co-founder of Ashton & Price LLP, Craig Fontaine Ashton has spent nearly three decades applying best-practice legal representation to seriously injured individuals throughout Northern California in cases involving auto accidents, trucking collisions, slip and fall, and premises liability, and insurance-related disputes. Since founding the firm alongside Christopher Alan Price in 1996, a fellow Pepperdine University School of Law graduate, Ashton & Price LLP reports securing more than $250 million in settlements, verdicts, and awards for local clients.

In addition to his legal practice, Ashton hosts “The All Things Legal Show” available on Podcast, and old school radio stations KSFO, KHTK, and KNBR. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in history, Ashton draws on the historical foundations of the American legal system to distill topical events spanning fields as varied as the regulation of artificial intelligence and autonomous machines, the First Amendment, and even the legal vagaries of “Florida Man,” as cleverly addressed by AI Judge Judy at the end of every show.

Ashton’s philosophy reflects a conviction about what the legal process is ultimately for. Echoing the older Lockean formulation of life, liberty, and property—later refined in the Declaration of Independence into the more aspirational “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”—Ashton has long advised clients that the process is not about money but about their health. When clients are introduced to the best available care early in their medical journey, their focus can remain on recovery and a return to happiness, while Craig and his legal team work to render their unique life disruption-from minor to catastrophic -into the best possible legal and financial outcome. In other words, their clients focus solely on getting back their health, and Ashton & Price does all the rest.

According to Ashton, many people encounter insurance and legal systems for the first time only after experiencing a serious accident or unexpected injury. The firm says its legal approach emphasizes best-practice, direct, artisanal, attorney-client communication and active representation throughout serious injury and insurance-related matters, particularly in cases involving significant medical, financial, or long-term recovery issues.

Ashton has always believed as a first legal principle that accessible, direct, human to human, local, legal communication remains an increasingly important part of consumer legal advocacy.

“Insurance claims and legal procedures can become overwhelming very quickly for individuals who have never dealt with the system before. Public education and clear communication can help people better understand their rights, responsibilities, and legal options. Relying on AI, that presents hallucinations as legal fact, is worse than being “represented by a fool” because AI’s flawed advice is presented so definitively a non-lawyer won’t recognize AI’s legal mistakes until it is too late.”
