Litigation and dispute resolution has always been one of the cornerstones of LEX’s practice as LEX has disputed many of the more complex disputes in the Icelandic legal environment.
LEX aims to be the Icelandic legal firm of choice for our clients and address their needs in the ever-changing local and international markets. As one of the oldest and most respected law firm in Iceland the lawyers at LEX put their client needs in foreground with efficiency and quality as a guiding light.
History of LEX
LEX Law Offices in its present form has strong roots dating back over half a century. In 1959, Mr. Sveinn Snorrason, Supreme Court Attorney, founded his law firm and soon three Supreme Court Attorneys joined him, Mr. Jónas Aðalsteinsson, who still acts as of counsel to the firm, Mr. Guðmundur Ingvi Sigurðsson and Mr. Jóhannes L.L. Helgason. As the years passed the firm grew and was branded with the name LEX Law Offices in 1987. In 2000, LEX merged with KPMG LAW in Iceland under the LEX brand name. Then in 2005 LEX and Nestor Law Offices also merged. Nestor was led by Mr. Karl Axelsson, then a Supreme Court Attorney and an Associate Professor at the University of Iceland, but Mr. Axelsson now serves as a Supreme Court Attorney.
Based on its strong historical roots and solid foundation, LEX has become one of Iceland’s largest law firms with around 40 lawyers and headquarters at Borgartún 26 in Reykjavik.
