Florida Bar Board Certified in Appellate Practice*
Admitted to all U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court
Dorothy is Florida Bar Board Certified in appellate law. When it comes to appeals, Dorothy is a nationally recognized author who literally wrote the book on federal appeals: Successful Federal Appeals in All Circuit Courts: A Practical Guide for Busy Lawyers. Dorothy appreciates the value of hard work, perseverance and tenacity. She grew up on a farm, learned to drive a tractor, and worked on a forestry logging crew for room and board as an undergraduate in the mountains of North Carolina. Dorothy has a Master of Science, summa cum laude, in forest genetics from New York SUNY/ESF, where she also worked as a Research Fellow, and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, in law from University of Miami, where she served as the Inter-American Law Review Executive Editor after serving as a Research Assistant for work on Constitutional and Latin American law. Dorothy also interned at the Third District Court of Appeal, State of Florida.
Her diverse professional experience–as a published research scientist in Latin America, as a university law professor, as a board certified appellate specialist, and as a former “biglaw” partner–has positioned her as a recognized leader in the appellate community. Dorothy is a former elected-Chair of the 1700-member Florida Appellate Practice Section, former Vice Chair of the Appellate Court Rules Committee, and former heads of two “big firm” appellate departments. As the firm’s founder and board certified appellate specialist, Dorothy uses that experience to supervise intimately and works exhaustively with a team of appellate attorneys and appellate paralegals to efficiently and expertly advance your appeal to leave no stone unturned.
With hundreds of appeals, Easley Appellate is highly experienced and respected by appellate judges and the appellate community as an exceptional appellate advocate and writer, possessing the uncanny ability to turn complex legalese into understandable prose, and advance even the most complex appeals.

Florida Appellate Practice. Federal Appellate Practice. Our axiom is straightforward. Despite the rapidly changing law, our appellate firm consistently employs five core principles for our clients: be leaders in outstanding service, substantial experience, continued study, commitment to excellence in what we produce and how we work efficiently. The successful results of our five-core approach speak for themselves. Most recently, the firm’s founder headed the appellate groups with several health care litigation firms representing national clients. The firm’s attorneys know appellate practice. They are board certified appellate specialists by The Florida Bar.
Clients entrust their complex and high stakes appeals to EAP PLLC for four fundamental reasons. We are board certified in appellate, highly experienced and innovative specialists, while not yielding to over-confidence. We provide outstanding customer service, with the highest Avvo customer ratings of 10 out of 10, and 5 stars. And we are well-respected, well-known and even feared by some as aggressive, rigorous appellate advocates. We are a select group of lawyers (less than 200 out of roughly100,000 lawyers in Florida) certified by The Florida Bar as having real appellate expertise.
Former Florida Supreme Court Justice Leander Shaw explained why appellate expertise are so important:
“[T]here is a difference between the skills needed in litigating a case before trial and appellate courts. Trial litigation – focusing on jury trials – requires jury arguments that are generally structured to lead ordinary people to decide something based on compelling emotional arguments. . . . In appellate advocacy, however, the emphasis switches and the attorney must stress the application of law to facts – keeping in mind the appellate court’s concern for uniformity of the law and doing justice.”
Hon. Leander Shaw, Supreme Court of Florida, quoted in Appellate Specialization and the Art of Appellate Advocacy by J. S. Carroll, 74-June Fla. B.J. 107 (2000) (quoting letter to author).
“Most lawyers. . .are not aware of the practical and doctrinal factors that shape appellate review. They do not realize that a judge approaches the appeal in a way that is very different from a lawyer.”
Paul R. Michel, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Effective Appellate Advocacy 24 No. 4 Litigation 19 (Summer 1998).
