Mónica Gutiérrez

Mónica Gutiérrez is a lawyer with more than 20 years of experience advising clients on tax law, foreign exchange regulation, foreign investment, corporate law, and cross-border transactions. As Partner and Vice President at Gallego Lawyers, she works closely with domestic and international clients to navigate complex legal and regulatory matters.

Before becoming Partner in January 2025, Ms. Gutiérrez served as Deputy Legal Director from May 2020 and as Senior Lawyer from January 2019 to April 2020. Over the course of her career, she has developed extensive experience in corporate regulation, foreign exchange matters, and investment frameworks, advising both private-sector clients and public institutions.

Prior to joining private practice, Ms. Gutiérrez held several positions in the public sector, including Head of the Area at the Commercial Register of Bogotá and Deputy Technical Director of the International Exchange Department at the Central Bank of Colombia. These roles gave her a practical understanding of the regulatory and institutional frameworks that shape business and investment activities.

Alongside her legal practice, Ms. Gutiérrez has remained actively involved in academia. She has taught International Foreign Exchange and Investment in postgraduate law programs at a number of Colombian universities, including Pontifical Xavierian University, Del Rosario University of Colombia, and Andes University. She currently serves as a professor at Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Javeriana (Cali), and Universidad del Rosario, where she enjoys sharing her professional experience with the next generation of lawyers.
