Professional Biography

Andrew H. Heft is a dedicated and experienced Canadian legal professional, born on February 28, 1951, in Montreal. A proud graduate of McGill University, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Civil Law in 1976. He was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in November 1977, marking the beginning of a long and accomplished legal career.

Heft’s legal practice is exclusively focused on family law and related civil litigation, a field in which he has developed deep expertise over the decades. His approach is marked by directness, energy, and assertiveness — qualities he believes are essential in creating the best possible conditions for his clients’ success.

His work in family law has spanned a wide spectrum of complex and emotionally charged issues, including:

  • Child custody and access, involving sensitive matters such as parental alienation, abuse, relocation, and grandparental rights.
  • Spousal and child support, including uncovering hidden assets and modifying or enforcing existing court orders.
  • Division of matrimonial property, where he navigates unequal division claims and compensatory allowances.
  • Protection and enforcement of judgment claims, utilizing legal mechanisms like seizure before judgment, hypothecs, and contempt proceedings.
  • Recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments within Quebec’s legal system.

In addition to his family law work, Heft also has considerable experience in non-family civil litigation, handling cases involving bankruptcy, fraud, civil liability, personal injury, libel, and labour disputes such as unjust dismissal.
