José Meythaler

José Meythaler is the Founding Partner and Managing Director of the firm, bringing over three decades of expertise in litigation and arbitration since its inception in 1988. He is widely regarded as one of Ecuador’s most accomplished litigators, with a distinguished track record in national and international dispute resolution.

Throughout his illustrious career, José has represented an extensive roster of global and regional industry leaders, including Chevron, Shell, Syngenta, Novartis, Pfizer, Merck, Bayer, Sanofi, Philip Morris, Procter & Gamble, and Johnson & Johnson, among others. His legal acumen spans civil and commercial litigation, international arbitration, intellectual property disputes, and market defence.

In addition to his role as Founding Partner, José leads the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, as well as the Intellectual Property Litigation Department, consistently delivering strategic solutions to complex legal challenges.

• He has been a professor for 15 years in the faculties of jurisprudence at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, Central University of Quito, University of the Americas, San Francisco de Quito, and SEK International.
• Deputy for the Province of Pichincha.
• Ex officio director of the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Quito.
• General Manager of Shell Compañía de Petróleo del Ecuador S.A.
• Member of the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property, currently SENADI.
• Founding Director of the Ecuadorian Association of Phonogram Producers (ASOTEC).
• Member of the Ecuadorian Institute of Roman Law and the Ecuadorian Institute of Tax Law.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
He has given lectures at several foreign universities, such as Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Austral University in Buenos Aires, Externado in Colombia, and UNAM in Mexico, among others.

He has participated in several international events on arbitration and has given conferences on the subject in Peru under the auspices of the Peruvian Institute of Arbitration.

He is a member of Latin American International Arbitration and an arbitrator judge at the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM).
