Professional Biography:

Helen advises in the protection, enforcement and commercialisation of all intellectual property rights, including copyright, trade marks, patents and designs. Other areas of her practice include privacy, confidential information, licensing, franchising, IP due diligence, domain name disputes, commercial contracts, comparative advertising, packaging and labelling matters. Helen also has experience in PBS/TGA and Telecommunication regulatory matters.

Prior to joining Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick, Helen was Corporate Counsel at SingTel Optus Pty Ltd. She also practised as an intellectual property and technology lawyer at Gilbert + Tobin and DibbsBarker.

During her medical science honours year, Helen studied the effects of Platelet Activating Factor (PAF) on pre-implantation murine embryos. This involved an understanding and utilisation of techniques in micromanipulation, cell and tissue culturing, immunofluorescence microscopy, calcium imaging, PCR and RT-PCR.

Helen subsequently, worked as a research scientist at key Australian research institutes including the Kolling Institute of Medical Research, the Sutton Laboratory of Rheumatology at Royal North Shore Hospital, the Department of Physiology at Sydney University and the Gastroenterology Unit at Nepean Hospital. During this time, Helen developed skills in ELISA, electrophoresis and radioimmunoassay techniques while being involved in diagnostic test development, molecular biology and immunology. She was also involved in a number of drug trials in respect of gastrointestinal disorders.
